Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Paul D. Wilson

First of all I want to thank you for your service. I am a student at the academy and to honor you and your family we have to learn about a DPD fallen officer. I was given your name. I couldn’t help but feel compelled to leave a reflection after reading all the other reflections. I continued to tear up throughout reading them because I have a young family as well. It is very hard to describe the heartfelt feelings of leaving them. Though, I do find comfort in knowing that your children love you very much and they have never forgotten about you. Present and future officers will continue to honor you.
Again thank you for your service and you will never be forgotten.

Romans 14:8-9 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

Today on the 49th anniversary of your passing, Mom went by your street sign in Denver that was dedicated during Police Week in May 2016. The ceremony and week long activities were absolutely amazing. We got to learn more about the events the day you were shot. We met your partner too. It was a week of memories, happy and sad, that I will never forget. Just as I will never forget you. I love always and forever Daddy!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 44th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who called you beloved for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace.

I am so sorry that I did not get the chance to meet you at Chris's funeral. Ashley spoke highly of you. You are a part of a larger family, and that family have never proven to fail. It is a sad circumstance that brings us to the never ending love and respect that is shown, but is the heart of the loyal men a women tha serve that keep us moving on.
I'm so sorry that you had to loose your father at such a young age. It is a tradgety unlike any other. I will keep you and your family in my prayers, to keep you strong and to give your heart peace.
Thank you so much for helping our local handicap children. Your father would be so proud.

Hi Daddy,

Today was a very difficult day. Today was the funeral of our Sheriff Chris Daniels of Lake County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Daniels was killed in an accident last Saturday during a charity bus race called the "Battle of the Badges." He and several other Sheriff's around the Central Florida area also participated. All day, I was brought back to the day of your funeral. My heart is heavy because I know the pain the Daniels family is feeling. I was at school and at about 12:15 p.m. the funeral procession came by on Bay Street. It was my lunch break and I went out to the road to watch. Our school is just a block away so I was able to see as they passed by. As it passed by I saw several motorcycle officers that lead the motorcade. Helicopters were hovering overhead. I saw the car that carried Sheriff Daniels and the limo's that carried his family. Following them were many law enforcement vehicles. While standing there watching, a dragonfly flew around and near me for several minutes. Thank you daddy for coming to tell me you loved me at that moment and to let me know you were there for Sheriff Daniels. I know you were there to welcome him into heaven, along with all the other officers there too. I needed to be there at that moment and now I know why. You know what dragonflies mean to me. Kent knows too because a dragonfly landed on my shoulder a few weeks after Kent died in the summer of 2002. Your spirit, in the form of that dragonfly, gave me a sense of peace; over-whelming love and enormous pride to be included in the very large family of Law Enforcement. I have missed you everyday since you left, but today I ached in grief just like I did the day you died and the day of your funeral.

Until we meet in heaven, I will continue to do my job as a teacher and know that without your passing I would not be doing what I am today. And thank you to the Denver Police Department and the Denver Police Orphan's Fund that gave me the financial support to pursue my degree in Education.

I Love You Daddy. I Love You too Kent.

Isn't it wonderful that we have this site to remember these awsome heros! Otherwise, I wouldn't have known the name and fate of this great man, or that his children have grown and become people their father would be so proud of. I was less than 6 months old when Officer Wilson died, and now, I know that he lived and died in the line of duty. I lost my own father almost 2 years ago. I am so thankful for the years I had him and that he was here to give me away to my beloved husband on our wedding day (Daddy even picked him out, introduced us and told me to marry him- another Deputy!) and was able to see all 5 of our children. But I still can't measure the sadness and emptiness that his absence leaves in my heart. At the time my dad was murdered, my husband was also shot several times and nearly died himself. I always thanked God for my husband, but never as much as now. I am so blessed that he was allowed to stay here and help me raise our family. I can only imagine how hard it is on the young families to be left without a parent. I feel for the wife this officer left behind with 3 small children in 1968. But obviously, the Lord was with her as she accomplished the job so successfully. I read about Officer Wilson's daughter who teaches special needs children. My own brother is severely mentally handicapped and I know it takes someone special to work with this population. I am thankful there are people like you willing to care for and love these special ones.
Officer Wilson, thank you for your service and sacrifice. This memorial is proof that Heros Live Forever! God bless you, Sir, and may God continue to bless your family.

I did not know Officer Paul Wilson, but I have come to know his daughter. She is all grown up with two boys of her own. She is a teacher of handicapped students and enjoys it immensely. She is a dear friend and has her faith in God that I know one day you will meet again. God Bless
