Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Reserve Captain Don H. Willmon

Don Willmon was my uncle and more like a father to me! The day you left broke our hearts! We still feel the sick feeling of unbelief and hurt that goes beyond words! You are still loved dearly, still missed, and there is still sorrow in my heart for our loss as a family, a community and your coworkers and friends!
I don’t know how other families make this journey but ours has only been through God’s mercy and grace!

Capt. Wilmon,
On today, the 35th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Angelina County. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. It angers me that the POS who did this to you got away when the government of his country always go on and on about the rights of their citizens when they're arrested in the United States that they commit.

At the time of his death, Don was also survived by a daughter, son and father.

Don has never been forgotten. When my oldest brother was a peace officer he constantly searched for the suspect.

His son followed in his footsteps as did a nephew.

I often wondered how your mother survived without you and more so after my own son's unexpected passing.

Thank you not only for your service to the citizens of Angelina County but your service to God was a shining example for all.

Missed and Always Remembered,

Your heroism and service is honored today on the 31rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 26 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for those who miss and love you. I rail at the injustice for your murderer, but he will answer to God.

Rest In Peace.

Although others may see a "statue of limitations," regarding murder, God does not like ugly, and we will all answer for our deeds/actions.......

Your influence on me to be a uniform Officer was not lost. Your good nature and fairness was an inspiration to me in the days we worked together, and throughout my years. As you walk with God watch over all of us. I will never forget you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I just read the memorial for Reserve Captain Don H. Willmon. On this 26th anniversary I would like for the family, friends and co-workers to know that he is not forgotten and he did not die in vein. I thank the Almighty for men and women who were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the public they have served.
After serving nearly 30 years in law enforcement I know it is only by the grace of God that I sit here today. Just know there are lots of folks across this country that care very deeply and will lift you up in prayer. May God continue to pour out His endless blessings upon each of you.
