I never met you, Detective Williams. I vividly remember hearing details of your ambush/murder on the news back then, in 1985.

Over the next few days, as more and more details were filled in, it angered me that those cowardly men were able to continue living while you are gone, and your precious son Ryan and his mom and sister will forever endure your loss.

Your last act on this earth was to cover your son the best you could, to save his life. And you succeeded valiantly.

Im a total civilian, , who was 37 when Officer Williams was, for lack of a better word, assasinated. I read about this in the newspaper so i had no personal contact with officer Williams or his family. Oddly enough I was born on oct 31.

It bothered me to read what happened, but not really knowing him, in time I put the incident out of my mind.

What made me recall it intensly, was the fact that Officer William's killer was let out on parole or so I have read. As callous as life has made me over the years, I had trouble believing this. I still have trouble. It is time to re-instate an effective death penalty. I have no illusions that a quickly applied death penalty would reduce the murder rate, but it can't be argued that an executed murderer will kill nobody else.

My condolences to Officer Williams family, even at this late date. May his Almighty soul rest in peace.

Tom had a great sense of humor and he paired it with his investigators instincts. We would often joke of his days in military school.
We worked on the Danny Jenkins Robbery attempted murder case together when I was a Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney. During the trial in front of Judge Bruce Sottile, Tom and I continued to investigate the case and interview witnesses. During the jury trial Tom and I sat shoulder to shoulder writing notes and questions to each other. When Jenkins took the stand I pretty much crossed examined him to a pulp and he was fuming mad but still trying to maintain his creepy calmness in front of the jury.
I sat down after saying “nothing further your honor”. Tom immediately leaned over to me and said “hey Mo, he would kill us if he could!” I said, “don’t be ridiculous”, and he said, “no I know a killer when I see one”. I then called Tom as a rebuttal witness to Jenkins testimony. As court concluded
We both went upstairs to call our Spouses and arrange to pick up our kids at after school programs and prepare for an evening of Trick and Treating. Tom followed me down the freeway and we both got off at Topanga Canyon Blvd. as I turned on Devonshire to my children's school he tooted the horn on his toyota truck and waved goodbye. 2 miles to Faith Baptist School he waited in line to pick up the apple of his eye, Ryan. In line behind Tom were some of my neighbors picking up their children. The entire murder took place in front of them. Tom died in a hail of bullets within an hour of us leaving the San Fernando Courthouse. Time and time again they told me how Tom yelled to Ryan to “ Duck”. Then he tried to reach for his gun. Danny Jenkins changed all our lives forever. My blood is starting to boil when I speak of this so I will stop.

I am so sorry this happened, I was friends with Ryan at faith baptist schools he was a year younger then me I’ll never forget the impact and hurt the day his dad was gunned down right in front of him his dad detective Williams saved his life and others . It was in front of the kindergarten playground I won’t ever forget looking at all the bullet holes above the drinking fountains on the classroom walls horrible memory for me I’m 41 now and still can’t forget that Halloween day . Thank you for your service and being so brave to save your sons life

I was a juror on the 3 defendant trial and was glad to hear parole was denied. I still can't believe the person who furnished the weapon was not retried. A fellow juror and myself held out for a mistrial because we felt he was guilty. He had a good defense team who used the "Super Glue" defense. As for the third defendant, we didn't think he was innocent but there just wasn't enough evidence to convict. I would like to see the movie but could not find it. Tonight I had dinner with my former partner and his father Judge Sottile. We talked about you and its been 11 long years since I commented last.

I'm now a Deputy Sheriff assigned to Lost Hills Malibu and I work patrol everyday. I continue to strive to be as fine of a Policeman as you.

You paid that ultimate sacrifice. Your son watched you be brutally murdered. I just want you're family to know how much I respect you.

I pray for them and I pray for your son Ryan. I pray peace will come to them.

I thank you for your commitment you gave to us while you were on the job.

I was in school that day with Ryan, he was in my class. I will never forget hearing what happened after going out to trick or treat. These monsters ruined many lives that day and for what? They all went to jail. Criminals are stupid and that's why they do what they do. Rip officer Williams.

I am proud to send off my letter requesting Gov. Brown overturn the parole of the murderer of Officer Williams. One can only imagine the horror that his son experienced on that day and the demons he has had to overcome throughout his life since then. God bless the family, friends, and former co-workers during this time of re-opening a wound that will never really heal. I beg God to ensure this murderer never walks the streets free again. Rest in peace brother, you have not been forgotten and we are still carrying the torch in your honor.

I remember this day, and this incident like it just happened. I had no personal connection to Detective Thomas Williams, or his family. I never met him to my knowledge. So why did it hit me so hard? Not sure myself, but I will try to explain.

I was on my way to pick up one of my kids from her school, and I had my young son in the car with me, when I drove towards the crime scene, not knowing what just occurred. The street I wanted to drive down was blocked off by LAPD cars and motorcycles, as well as other emergency vehicles. I didn’t know what was going on, but I remember thinking, something pretty bad must have just happened.

One of my best friends, an LAPD officer working at the Van Nuys Division called me a little later and told me that an officer was shot and killed down the street from where we lived. I then thought about the area. I knew that was the street where parents picked up the children, and I remember thinking, please God, I pray that no children were hurt or had to see this.

Then he told me that the officer was off duty and picking up his son. I found out later that his son was with him and witnessed the whole thing, and that his dad died right next to him. That’s when it hit me. Maybe I thought about my own son or daughter, and what it would be like if that were me. I thought about what they would go through and experience, the horror, the fear and the helplessness. I started crying right then, for that young boy, who just lost his dad, his best friend, his protector and his hero all at once.

At the time, I didn’t care about why Detective Williams was killed, or by who. I just kept thinking why did this have to happen to this father in front of his son. How can someone be so evil to think about doing this and possibly killing the child too? I found out the details later as to why Detective Williams was targeted, and by whom. This made me even angrier knowing how futile and senseless their cowardly act was.

I give all Respect to Detective Thomas Williams, with Dignity and Honor, as well as to all the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the people they serve, their family and friends.

I didn't know Officer Williams, but I now know his story. I honor his bravery and his sacrifice! I'm more than a little upset that they are trying to parole one of his attackers! You can honor Officer Williams by writing or e-mailing Gov. Brown of California and telling him "no parole" for Voltaire Williams. Murder is murder and he should never see or feel freedom again! I remember that day so well. I was the Victim Advocate assigned to North Hollywood Division when this senseless crime occurred. Tom was a great Detective and an all around great person. I had my favorites and he was one of them. During our grieving I had the good fortune to meet Tom's wonderful family. I have made a good life time friend in his wife Norma. Tom's family along with the entire LAPD family suffered a great loss.
