Reflections for Police Officer Arthur L. Williams

Today 32 years ago you were taken from us. Today it seems like yesterday. I love you Dad. May God bless all the Officers who serve and protect, and their families. THIS IS MY PRAYER FOR TODAY.

A year after my dad was killed, I proclaimed a First-Team All-State, All-American Scholar Athlete .... THE LOCAL NEWS PAPER(S) NEVER EVEN MENTIONED MY DAD...he was my biggest fan...two (2)days ago I was inducted into my high school's hall of fame... PLEASE POST THIS AS A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER...30 years later but not forgotten... had he relocated our family from the inner-city like so many other NPD Officers did then & do now, he may well have been alive today..... He gave his life to defend our home, he lived his life to enrich our city....I along with many of my friends were mentored by a living example, MY FATHER... we all (including your six (6) grand-children) proudly salute YOU DAD ... the banner that will hang in the Malcolm X Shabazz (South Side)High School Gym, for as long as there is a Malcolm X Shabazz High School, SHALL SERVE AS A MEMORIAL to a 'real legend', my dad....the Late P/O Arthur L. Williams... my hero !!

On this day 31 years ago I received the phone that an officer had had been killed. That officer was my dad. The pain that the family is left with never goes away, as evident by being at this site over 30 years later. My prayer today is that another family not go through what mine did, and that God, be with our Police officers, today, and always. Thank you to all who've made the ultimate sacrifice, and to all that serve.

Officer Williams,

Thank you for your service to the citizens of New Jersey both on and off duty. You gave your life protecting others, and in this case your own home and family. These two suspects now have a higher power to answer to. Rest easy sir, you will not be forgotten.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

ONE MOMENT

In the whisper of the wind,
I felt God embrace me.
As the voice of a loved one,
I heard God speak to me
Looking in a mirror
I saw God smile at me.
One moment and I knew
That God and I were one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though your smile is gone forever,
And your hands we cannot touch;
Still we have so many memories
Of the one we loved so much.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we will never part.
God has you in His keeping
And we have you in our hearts.
We know you walk beside us,
And when our lives are through,
We pray that God will take our hands
And lead us straight to you.
To the family and friends of this brave officer. I have just completed the new web site for the Fraternal Order of Police Newark Lodge#12 and would like to take a moment to thank all of these men for giving me one of the most spiritual experiences in my life. I felt that each and every one of these officers were at my side guiding me to the completion of the sites "In Memory Of..." page. God Bless and Thank You!
I see the harsh reality of irony....Both murderers were 'sentenced to life' for taking one. Rest easy brother. Know that you are not forgotten.
