This is for Kevin Whitted:

My father, Dudley Conner, Sr. was Officer Whitted's partner for several months before Dad left the Louisville Police Dept. to go into the insurance business. I recall Officer Whitted and his wife coming to our house in PRP for cookouts. My dad was very fond of Cosby. Dad had been off the police dept. for only a few months when he was driving his car, listening to the radio and heard the radio broadcaster announce that a police officer had been killed that day on his motorcycle. Dad said he instinctively knew it was Cosby. Cosby died on Aug. 23, 1963, my 13th birthday. I will never forget the great sadness when we paid our respects at the funeral home. I have always wondered about Officer Whitted's remaining family.

Dad died Dec. 29, 2009. A year or so after his death, I started thinking about Cosby Whitted, and went on the Internet to see what I could find. I was surprised to find that my dad posted the following on April 8, 2007, on the website www.supportingheroes.org. He had never mentioned doing this.

Cosby Whitted was my partner for several months, he was one of the best partners I had while I was with LPD, I left in 1963 for the insurance industry he was killed a short time later, REST EASY, SLEEP WELL MY BROTHER you will not be forgotten.

Uncle Buddy,

I never had the opportunity to know you because you died four months before I was born. I know that my dad and uncle miss their brother very much. I wish that I had known you. You died too young. Thank you for your service.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 50th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
