On May 15th, 2017 I was given the honor of reading Officer Wetsel's name at the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial in St. Paul. Standing guard at the memorial has been and will continue to be one of the greatest honors of my law enforcement career. Although Officer Wetsel is no longer with us, he will always be remembered. Rest in peace Officer Wetsel, we will take it from here.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 116th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

What a terrible way to die. My Dad and my son share your name, Charles. It means "brave protecter" - and that you are. May God bless your soul and all of those you left behind.
