Reflections for Police Officer George J. Werdann

as of today, youve been gone for 23 years... the age you were when you passed...

God Bless You...

I knew George when he first came on the job with a good, close friend of mine, Billy Wilson, later a Sergeant in the 46 Pct. George and Billy had a few foot posts in my home precinct at the time (8th Div NSU) and I used to make it a point to meet them while they were on patrol.

For a short time, I worked 9th Division Radio at 911, and George and I would carry on our own funny conversations on the Dept. radio!

I remember the night Billy called me to tell me that George had been killed. It was, of course, devastating to both of us.

Sadly, Billy also left us early, passing on only a couple of years after his retirement on his 20th Anniversary.

They were close friends and a good team, and are both missed.

I KNEW GEORGE BEFORE EITHER OF US WERE MEMBERS OF THE SERVICE, AND UNFORTUNATELY NEVER HAD THE HONOR OF WORKING "ON DUTY" WITH HIM. HOWEVER KNOWING GEORGE AND HIS MOTHER PAT, IT WAS NO SURPRISE TO MYSELF OR ANY OF HIS OTHER FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT HE ACTED WITH COURAGE AND COMPASSION ON DUTY AND OFF DUTY. OUR LOSS IS HEAVEN'S GAIN. REST IN PEACE GEORGE.

Although Officer Werdann was assigned to the 47th pct. This tragic event took place in the 52nd pct. The school adjacent to the 52nd pct has since been renamed Police Officer George J. Werdann School. Well deserved. God bless George and his family and may he rest in peace.
