An obviously tragic and painful day for the New Orleans Police Dept. Though it's been 86 years today since this event, I still mourn your death, Brother.

God Bless you, Corporal Weidert and may your eternal rest be ever peaceful.

Harvard University Police Dept.

I HAD THE HONOR TO WORK WITH CORPORAL WEIDERT'S GREAT GRANDSON ALSO A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. I ATTEND THE LOUISIANA LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MEMORIAL YEARLY. AT THE MEMORIAL THOSE OFFICERS FROM LOUISIANA KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY IN THE PAST YEAR ARE ADDED TO A GRANITE WALL, AND SURVIVORS ARE RECOGNIZED. CORPORAL WEIDERT'S NAME IS ENGRAVED ON THAT GRANITE WALL. WHEN I ATTEND THE YEARLY MEMORIAL I READ HIS NAME ON THE WALL AND REFLECT ABOUT THE SACRIFICE MADE BY CORPORAL WEIDERT AND THE LOSS TO HIS FAMILY. HIS SERVICE AND SACRIFICE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.

Corporal George P. Weidert was my grandfather. I did not have the opportunity to know him as my mother was 12 years when he was killed. Corporal Weidert left behind a wife and 4 children. I do have a picture of him in his police uniform.
