Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Patrick Kelly Behan

I unfortunately never had the chance to meet you. I was going through the application process for BSO when you were taken. Your death strengthened my resolve to stand up and accept the challenge. I think of you often and the impact you have had on my life and my career. Even as time passes, rest assured that you will never be forgotten. On the 16th anniversary of your ultimate sacrifice, BSO is reeling from the loss of yet another hero. Greet Brian with open arms and show him around the place...

Dear Pat:
Though we never met formally, we did meet momentarily. On August 8, 1980, your brother Bob and I graduated the 78th Broward County Police Academy. You were in the audience. I am certain that you were as good a cop as Bobby, and my friends in the Boca Raton Police Department where you once served, felt the same way.
You made a difference, Pat. You were and still ARE, one of us. And you always will be. The injustice done to you by the judge, who's name is not worthy of mention on this sacred memorial page, can never detract the sacrifice you made.
Rest easy now brother, and go with God. "Man knows no greater love, than the man who lays down his life for another." Amen

Deputy Behan,
On today, the 15th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Broward County. And also, I can't believe a judge could release this murderer, what kind of justice system is there in Florida?

Pat,
It has been 15 years since you were taken from us. I have thought about you many, many times since that terrible day.

We had a good time going through the acadmemy together. We grew pretty close during the 4 1/2 months of classes, physical fitness and defensive tactics training. I haven't forgotten that during boxing, we were fighting each other and I was sent to the hospital as the instructor though you broke my nose!!

We kept in touch after graduation and I know we would have remained good friends forever.

I miss you buddy.

On the 15th anniversary of your end of watch you are still remembered for your dedication to your community and the sacrifices that you made. While I was only a rookie at BSO when your watch ended, 15 years later, we all continue the watch for you. Rest in peace our brother.

It will be 15 years since your tour of duty ended and justice was never served in your name. I know the grief experienced by your family and close friends and it was compounded even more with the outcome of the criminal case concerning your death. You are a true hero and you will never be forgotten. Keep watch over your family and those still out on patrol.

Pat, Be at peace my brother because the Lord will deal with those who were involved in this Haines tragedy. You are the true hero and you have given your life doing what you loved best.

Our prayers are with you and your family and we continue to pray that justice will be served for all who were involved.

I will trust in the Lord to see that through.

God bless my friend and brother you are truly missed,

Pat,

I just found this site, it's so hard to believe, that it has been so long since that tragic day. I remember when you came to my going away party with your brother Bob, singing songs in that Irish Pub, it was a great time that I will never forget.

My family's prayers are with you and your family, Pat, you truly are an American hero, you will continue to be greatly missed by all who knew you. God bless you, Pat.
