This hero is my mother's uncle...and my great uncle. His tombstone reads "Shot by Dillenger"...in a cemetary outside of my hometown in Indiana.

Patrolman Howard Wagner :
It is so sad that the names of John Dillinger and Baby Face Nelson are so known. It is your name Patrolman Howard Wagner that should be known. You are a hero and a man to be looked up to. May you rest in peace and thank you and your family for the ultimate sacrifice. WE are a better people today because you walked among us yesterday.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 78th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
