Though it has been 108 years since Officer Van Meter's death, he is still remembered and his sacrifice honored at the Fresno Police Department. Today we placed flowers next to his name at our department's memorial and at the county peace officers memorial. God speed Van Meter, and thank you for your service to our community.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 102nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
