Reflections for Detective James J. Troy

Detective Troy, it has been 94 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your years of law enforcement service. You should be very proud of the legacy to law enforcement you have created!

I heard stories about James Troy, from my grandmother, Claire Harrington...james was her Brother....My mother, Anna Donoghue (harrington) was born later in the year that Jim was killed, and was very close to Jim's son, Tommy....and other children...rest in peace, great grand uncle..

My 101 year old father (Joe Colbert) and i visited the gravesite this week in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA. My mother Anna Troy Colbert was a devoted daughter to both James and Anna Troy. She was 12 years old at the time of his death. Family history reports after his death the remarkable Troy family held together by a loving Great Grandmother and Grandfather Miller and James wife Anna. All are buried together at his gravesite. The Boston Police Department decorates his grave each Memorial Day. Thank you.

I think often of my grandfather, and wished that I had had the opportunity to know him. Coming from a police family has given me a perspective on life and duty that I would not have known otherwise.

He was my grandfather. I never had the chance to know him and my father lost him at nine years old. My dad went on to become a BPD Detective. They were both inspirational people to me. Very proud of their sacrifice and service to the city.

Today is the anniversary of James' line of duty death. My family and I are thinking of his service and sacrifice today. We are residents of the city of Boston and we have a fantastic police force here in the city. We as a community need to stand behind our law enforcement officers. James made the ultimate sacrifice and as the famous saying goes it is not just a community that loses an officer. It is a nation. Honor the fallen and never forget. This post is for Detective James Troy. You are in our hearts and prayers tonight.

Grandpa,
Although I never got to meet you, I am proud of the rich heritage you left for us. You would be happy to know that your legacy in public service lives on through your sons, daughters, and their children. At last count six of us have taken your place in the thin blue line.
