Reflections for Officer J. D. Tippit

It is the 50th anniversary of your assassination along with President Kennedy. I hope people will never forget your sacrifice and your sacrifice needs to be recognized as much as the presidents.

It saddens me to know that your heroism is lost in the awareness of the historical event that also took your life that day 50 years ago. May your family know that your supreme sacrifice is not forgotten. May you rest in peace Officer Tippit.

Thank you Officer Tippit for your supreme sacrifice and dedicated duty to the citizens of Dallas, Texas, and to our country. Had it not been for you, perhaps the killer of our President would have gotten away and remained a mystery in the book of history. As it was, your dedication and your bravery led to the tragedy of your murder in the line of duty, which eventually aided in the identification and capture of the killer Lee H Oswald. God bless your family, may they always know that our nation is grateful, and our state was blessed to have a public servant such as you. Thank you for your dedication to duty.

I have always love history and when I was in high school this poor man was never mentioned as part of the JFK assassination. I have watched documentaries that he was not mentioned. I watched a movie on the National Geographic channel and it was the first time I have seen that a police officer was murdered. My very late condolences to the friends and family of this man even though I was not born until 1967. His selfless heroism should have been recognized more throughout the United States.

Thank you Officer Tippit, not only for your law enforcement service but also your military service as well. My thoughts are with your family and friends on this 50th anniversary of your ultimate sacrifice. I was just a little over 2 1/2 years old back then. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

Soon it will be 50 years. Your bravery and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten Officer Tippet. I was only ten but remember that days events fairly well. And now as I watch a documentary about that day I find myself thinking of your service, bravery, sacrifice and the family left behind in this tragedy. My thoughts are with your family. You will never be forgotten.

Sir:
7 years ago, I left my first reflection you. Today, just a few days away from the 50th anniversary of your passing, I write my second. As I stated in my first reflection, let me reiterate myself again...your heroism and your sacrifice, made me have the dedication and the tenacity to do the things I have done in my career.
I owe to you, my deepest gratitude, and my ultimate respect, for impressing so much with your death, that I have had the stellar career I have had.
I know that the time will come, when I will have the chance to personally shake your hand, and thank you man to man, for being my hero.
I ask only this: that Almighty God keep you close to His heart, and I am certain, without doubt, that when He opened the Gates of Heaven that November day, He said to you, "Welcome Home J.D. You did your job well".
Rest in peace, my brother..our thin line stays thin, but the line WILL hold. Amen

This day, I have not forgotten and will never forget as long as I live. I can remembered exactly where I was, who I was with, what I was doing when the silence was broken by a news flash. President Kennedy is assassinated. I could not stop the tears. It was just like someone had just told me "Your Father has just been killed.

49 years later the solemn vow "We will never forget you!" has been proven! "Nearly 49 years to the day he was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald at 10th Street and Patton Avenue, Dallas police Officer J.D. Tippit's memory was honored with a historical marker in a stirring ceremony Tuesday afternoon. Tippit's widow, Marie, helped unveil the historical marker, which is now on the campus of Adamson High School."

JD...as I was pushing my two children on a swing set while spending time with relatives for Thanksgiving, I couldn't help think of you and the sacrifice you made. At 2:15 pm Florida time I paused and thanked you for your service and realized that as my children were spending time with me their father, your three children lost their father. On this holiday I am thankful for spending time with my children and thankful for your sacrifice. May you and your family find peace this holiday.

The thin blue line once again was too close to an event that, in this case, touched world history forever. The information that officer Tippit could have provided may have changed that course of history. The human element entered into the event and an unholstered weapon may have made the difference. As a former officer, I too have made decisions that could have been equally as horrific. Officers are human and make mistakes. Where do we keep getting men and women willing to run toward the danger instead of away from it? Rest in peace with the certain knowledge that you will not be forgotten. May God bless you and your family who surely think of you daily.
