Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant William Keith Thurston

Bill,

I still think of you to this day, you were an Ohio Deputy Sheriff and I was just a high school kid you had taken a liking to and we became good friends. You were a role model to me and what life was all about and I think that molded me to steer clear of trouble. You truly were what I believe what an officer should be.

Your friend, Dennis

Bill,
20 years ago today you left us for a better world. I still miss you and wonder how our paths would have worked out. Please watch over those who love and think of you. You will never be forgotten.

Bill, it is hard to believe that it has be twenty years. This time of the year is still tough. You are thought of often and at times even talked about. Your laugh and smile will always stay with me. Snively has a CD of his own written songs. Sounds pretty good. He runs open mics for musicians around Cleveland. Don't know what happened to Schneck. I thank you for being my friend. That is something that I can always have.

Sgt. Thurston-
You have never been forgotten. Rest in peace. God speed.

December 10, 2005

Bill,
Tomorrow it will be 19 years without you in our lives. I still miss your smile and laugh. The fatherly advice missed mostly. I never hear from Schneck, Jim is doing good and having fun with his music. Life goes on.

Well Bill, another year has passed and it has been eighteen years since you left. I still think of you often and wonder what became of Connie and the kids. I know that you are looking over them. Take care.

We were partners a lot up to the time of his death. I took a few days off to work my other job when he was killed. I really still miss him to this day.

You see, he should have never been on the street and died that night. I wish I had been with him and that would have changed the moment that he was hit. Some delay in getting my rear into the patrol car or some other slow down. Bill was also starting up our Intelligence department but we were short handed on patrol so he dived in until this new office could be established. He had a warehouse of knowledge about criminal behavior, and he even knew hypnosis to help victims remember details of crimes. He really had too much to offer as a lawman to be on the street.

He was a golf nut and on deep nights we would drive up to the Denton city golf course in the pitch black, and he would longingly look at the greens. He was a good husband and father. He was a devoted Christian with a big heart. He also outgrew his uniform and I asked him one night just before he died why he did not wear his seatbelt. He responded that he left his faith in God and that a seatbelt would not save him in a wreck. How prophetic.

When he died our department sent an honor guard to follow his body back to Ohio to be buried. His wrecked car sat behind a County building for several years and one night I drove from Dallas up to Denton just to see it. It tore me up to see what was left of his patrol car. The County has since moved it, probably junked it.

Bill, I miss you buddy, and know that I still cherish the time that we spent together, you being Yoda, teaching me the way of the Force. God bless you and may the angels smile upon you.

Bill, I miss your laugh and your fatherly advice. You are still a good friend and Jim, Bill and I think about and talk about you often. Someday we will get that ice cream cone.
