Reflections for Wildlife Officer James G. Thompson

I remember Jimmy from when I was a child. My dad and mom, Al and Janette Harris, were very good friends with Jimmy and Peggy. Dad was a Florida Highway Patrol officer. He was such a nice man. I was a kid but I knew he was a good person. Such funny stories they used to tell each other. It was still pretty wild and woolly in the state even that far into the 1900’s. I remember his small children, we spend a number of times with family time together. After Jimmy passed away, which devastated my parents, they lost touch with Peg. I remember her as a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. She sang country music but can’t remember her stage name she went by. I’d sure love to catch back up with the kids and see what all has happened since I last knew anything of them. Jimmy, you are certainly one of my hero’s. Such a loss of life is not something I can understand

On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, FWC officers, Instructors, and Recruits from Class 38 honored fallen Officer Jimmy Thompson in the form of a Memorial Workout for his ultimate sacrifice when he gave his life on June 25, 1968. His legacy has paved the way for officers that have and continue to wear the badge of our agency; while being a shining example for future officers such as those of the FWC Academy Class 38. We gave our all during the memorial workout to honor his impact on future generations of FWC members and the public that enjoy the resources Florida has to offer. Thank you brother, we will always remember and honor your service to the agency and the Great State of Florida.

On June 25, 1968, we lost a member of our family and the FWC law Enforcement community. In recognition of the continued vision and shared goal, on June 27, 2018 FWC LE Class 37 dedicated its Memorial Workout to Officer Jimmy Thompson.

Conservation is the management of natural resources for current and future utilization. We choose to engage for the betterment of our family, community, and environment. When we lose a member of that family, we have to work harder to continue the mission. We worked to challenge ourselves, we worked to push each other, but most importantly we participated to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of our family member. We will never forget our team/family member.

Woods, Water, Air, 37 is there.
