34 years since you were taken from me. I wish I could have grown up with my father in my life. It hurts just as bad today as always. I love you dad and always will. You are a true hero in my eyes and the eyes of many. Rest in heaven and we will be together again where nobody can hurt us or keep us a way from what we were deprived of all these years.

I remember Glenn as a fellow wrestler on Crestviews first wrestling teams...he was always asked to drop down to a lower weight class, because we had no one that was in it...never forget the time he ran an sweated with piles of clothing on to drop almost 10 lbs in just a couple of hours to wrestle ... really a great person

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 31rst anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections. To his son, I wish you peace in your heart and hope you have reunited with your father's family.

Kevin, your response brings so much joy to me and my heavy heart. We are coming up on memorial day and im frantically searching for a memorial service for my father. how do i contact you? I would absolutely love to hear what you know of my daddy. I know so little and have lost contact with the Sturgill side of the family due to the divorce and my mom harboring me from them. It brings so much sadness to know so little about such a great man. Thank you so very very much for your kind words and supporting thoughts/prayers!

Timothy,
Your Dad was my best friend! I'm now living in California. I have a picture of him on my office desk. If you ever want to contact me, I'd love to get to know you and tell you stories we had together. Your Dad was the most special person! He was always there for me whenever I asked anything of him. He was a great man, and you should be proud of him for the way he lived his life! I'm sure you miss having a father, but just know he will always be there for you guys!

Glenn is my father and i was only 3 years old when he passed, I miss him so dearly and long to know him better, its so sad to know he gave his life protecting Ashland Counties citizens and my family... unfortunately I have lost contact with majority of the Sturgill family and it breaks my heart everyday. I just found this memorial for him and thank the creators with everything I am. I cant express what life has been like without him, a son without his father, but I have always known my daddy died doing what he loved and doing so many good things for the community and his family. Anybody that can help me learn more and know my dad better please let me know... I truly wish there was more I could do for my fathers life to be more celebrated and recognized. He will never die in my heart. I wish I wouldnt have made the mistakes I have but i can only live and learn from them. I can only hope to turn out to be half the man my father was and only live to make him proud. I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I can't begin to describe the respect that I have for Detective Sergeant Sturgill. It's terribly troubling to know that he gave his all on his birthday, and was killed so violently. I hope that his family has been doing well over the years. In his final moments, he truly was a hero. He protected us from violent predators who attack innocent citizens, and for that I am sure that his receiving his reward in heaven. Rest well, and thanks for fighting the good fight.
