Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Frank Lightner Armstrong

I thought about you, Deputy Armstrong, and Doris, today when I learned that Augusta County wants to close its historic courthouse. My great aunt, Helen Gilkeson, was married to the Sheriff who was with you when you died that day. Doris never remarried and she had dinner at my grandmother's almost every week. I heard about this all my life. It was part of my reason for becoming a lawyer. You were part of an important tradition. Thank you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 69th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

Deputy Armstrong, You were taken from the world long before I was born, but as a young child I listened to stories about you. I sat wide eyed and amazed as my father and his best friend told of your brave deeds and how they looked up to you and The sheriff. Many years later I became a law enforcwment officer. It's been thirteen years now. Thank you for your bravery and your sacrafice
