My dad was one of your dad's partners (Jimmie "Cricket" Harrington). I was only 7 years old when your dad died and I don't remember much of those days, but I remember being with your family after the funeral and how devastated my dad was. He had great memories of "Stocker."

My sympathy to family. My father's partner was killed in a similar way and he was greatly affected by it and retired two years later. To serve only 9 years doesnt seem enough. Too many people are (were) able to obtain guns. Its a little more difficult today for citizens to get guns but we need more control. Today, Detroit is number two in the country for violent deaths (murder)

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 41rst anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was also your fellow Marine so I bid you semper fi and thank you for your service to our country in the Corps/

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I thank your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Forty years and I miss him every day. Cannot believe it's 40 years.

I remember Tom coming home on leave from the Marines, surprising everyone, just showing up at the house without telling us he was coming. Sitting on the front porch enjoying all the green on the trees after being stationed in dusty Southern California. Walking back and forth to high school with his jacket open, regardless of the weather, because he was too cool and too tough to zip it up. He had a car with no engine when he was in high school but managed to cruise Woodward Avenue anyway by having friends take turns pushing him up and down the road. What a great guy.

i was working #6 at the time and responded to the call. OfficerGeorge Olter,#6 cruiser was also shot that day and swallowed the bullet on the way to hospital. Never returned to the job but is alive. I believe that was on Hillsboro in #6. We also questioned another suspect in that shooting but never arrested, but believe he might have been there, his name Hayward Brown. That December 27th another police shooting took place at 9202 Schaffer #6. Bobby Bradford died in my arms that night, Hayward Brown was one of the shooters. I still have the original report I made at homicide that night. That night will forever be with me.

I just returned from the cemetery with my oldest son and I placed a small memorial there for you ,it's still hard for me to believe today is 40yrs since that day that changed our lives forever.
There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you, glance at the picture of you that still remains in my wallet , miss your stinky little Italian cigars, your quick wit comments , the things we did together as partners, friends & families.

Dora, Tommy, Annmarie & Jimmy he loved you more than life itself !!

I miss my FRIEND & PARTNER still to this day !!!!!

Dear Stocker Family,
I was proud to have known and served with Gil, your husband and father. I served with him at the 2nd precinct from Jan. 1968 until my transfer to the Motor Division in 1971. I was on routine freeway patrol on July 31, 1972. I was one of several motor vehicles that escorted Gil to Detroit Receiving Hospital where I discovered the wounded officer was Gil Stocker. The loss touched me deeply and I have never ceased remembering and prayering for all of you on the anniversary of his passing. Gil was an unforgetable kind of guy. Much love to his family.l

Still thinking of you Dad. For Mothers Day my kids transferred some home movies to dvd . So I was able to see some good pictures of my dad, they brought back a lot of memories of him bringing us here to California to visit right before his passing. So Dad whenever I want to think of those times I just watch that dvd. Love and miss you.

After all these years (38+) I still miss Gil. I often think about the the times Gil and his son Tommy and I and my son Lee would go fishing. I still have a video recording of our ice fishing trip. Lee now lives in Arizona and I live in Fort myers, FL. but, we talk about the trip every winter.

I met Gil while attended Police classes at Macomb County Community College. Gil had a great sense of humor and was always in the face of the liberal college Prof, Erick Beckman. Gil would get me into hockey games at Olympia Stadium. I remeber he worked the Big 4, which was a kick butt assignment back then. He was a great guy. I attended his funeral as did Prof. Beckman and thousands of others. After all these years I still think of him. He helped shape me and be the officer I was for thirty years. To the family, I am so sorry for your loss. Gil was a cops cop and a man's man.

Somewhere among these many pages of heroes, I came across Officer Stocker's name. I wanted to stop at his page and leave a reflection in his honor. He sounded like a really great guy, one that I would have loved to have worked with on a daily basis. He will never be forgotten by those that love him dearly for they carry his love in their hearts and think of him every day. I hope he continues to keep watch over all of his loved ones and those still out on patrol. He is a true hero and heroes never die.

Thank you to all of you who still remember and think of our brother. We loved reading of Tom's "you think you have a choice" line (that sounds just like a Stocker!) and of his encouragement of others to continue their educations. That is especially poignant because Tom, if I remember correctly, wasn't a successful high school student and dropped out to join the Marines. He later got his GED. He and Dora and the kids lived upstairs from us and it's true he loved his family no end. It was apparent in everything he did to better himself so his family could benefit.

I spoke of this website to our aunt last weekend. She told me this story: her oldest child was newly ill with MS and was in the hospital. Tom and some of his police buddies went to the hospital where Frank was on the ground floor. These reprobate Detroit cops pried the screen off the window, got the patient out of bed, put a robe and slippers on him, and took him to a bar. They brought him back later that night and replaced the screen. The next morning, when Frank had some lab work done, the doctors couldn't fathom why his blood alcohol content read what it did.

Better yet, they returned another time and went to Frank's room where they handcuffed him and took him out the front door, telling the nurse that he was under arrest. This is the kind of man Tom was - big-hearted, light-hearted, and devoted to his work and his family.

We have missed him.

Dear Stocker Family,

I was the officer who's arm's Gilbert died in. On that fateful day my partner John Beligian, and other officers carried Gilbert to our scout car when I jumped in the back, held him close to my heart and talked to him. For the last 36 years there are very few day's that go by that I don't think about it.
I never had the opportunity to really meet him, but I know we will be brothers at heart forever.
