Reflections for Patrolman Robert Franklin Stinnett

I was born in 1968. I always wanted to meet this man. He was a hero to anyone who ever told me a story about him. I know in his off time he taught boxing at the local boys club in Vernon. He was a prison guard at Alcatraz and a professional boxer when he went to California. God Bless him.

I was 4yrs old in 1953, when my parents and I stopped in a cafe in Dalhart if I recall correctly. Like most youngsters, I was fascinated with policemen. I walked up to Trooper Stinnett and his partner and engaged them in a conversation. I asked him if I could see one of his bullets, whereupon he gave me one to keep as a souvenir. However, he instructed me to turn it over to my Dad for safe keeping. I've never forgotten his name or that brief moment. What a man!

My grandfather, Texas Ranger Jim Geer and Bob Stinnett were great friends and worked many criminal cases together in Vernon. He was a great family friend and wonderful mentor to many youths, including me. A truly outstanding lawman and gentleman....you are remembered.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 47th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I pray for the soloce of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
