My father passed 4/6/15 with illness. He was honored to abort the chase and stay with his partner Officer Smith until Emergency responders arrived. I don't remember if he went to the hospital with Officer Smith. He spoke of how much he liked his partner.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 44th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I am Robert Smith's son. Unfortunately, I was a little over a year old when he died. I would like to get in touch with others who knew him at the time.

I currently live in the DC area and have been to his grave in California and the Memorial in DC on top of the Judicial Square metro stop.

I will never forget the night you left us. I was involved in the pursuit and was terribly shocked when I received the word on the accident. You have never been forgotten. It was a difficult time for Long beach Officers in the 1960's and you were a great loss as a friend and fellow officer.
