My brother Jim Slockett was a county sheriff for many years and recently retired. I prayed often for his safety as all our officers face so many dangers. I am so sorry for your loss. Your Sergeant Slockett was a hero.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Not a day goes by when I do not think of you! I miss you everyday and still cry for you. You were the most amazing dad and friend a kid for ask for. I have one of my favorite pictures of you in my hallway, on the way to my daughters room. Everytime I walk in and out of there we see you, and I know you are laughing at me. I know that you would be proud of Mom, David Allen and I. I did not know about this site until today. I would have left my thoughts often. I love you

Brother,
I have never really come to terms on what happend that early 4th of July morning. I was out of town when I got the call from Dad and I must have been going as fast as my little Chevy Chevette would go. My whole world, my life seemed to be some kind of dream...I just could not believe it.I was there when the officers brought your killer to the pretrial and I think the guy saw me and thought he was seeing a ghost. At any rate brother as far as justice we will never see it here. Only God himself can pass judgement and you know he will. We here on Earth want revenge I think we just call it justice. And I know if you saw your killers in Heaven You would simply forgive them. After you scared the crap out of them of course...LOL.I love you and will allways love you so untill we meet again I will be here for our family and your children as much as I can. (By the way I talked with Angela your Daughter today she is fine and an awesome Lady). So I guess my point here is to all people who has lost someone to violence...FORGIVE, God will handle it. Miss ya, and I will see you again.

It has truely been an honor paying tribute to you every year that I participate in the Honor Guard's 21 Gun Salute. As I shoot the shotgun my heart aches in knowing that you and other of our brothers and sisters were taken from us so soon. I never knew you but I walk by your picture each day that I am at work and think of the things that I have always read about you. I pray for your family and friends that have lost such a great man. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God". (Mathew 5:9) I hope to one day meet you so that I can see for myself what a great person you really were. God bless!

A skinny kid with a gift to make you laugh. My little brother and my favorite shoot um up and lock em up play mate, cops and robbers was our game. We shared so much...I miss him so much. My brother, my confident and friend. Directions To My Father's House. Make a right onto "Believeth Blvd." Keep straight and go through the Green Light, which is Jesus Christ. From there, you must turn onto the "Bridge of Faith," which is over troubled water. When you get off the bridge, make a Right turn and keep straight. You are on the "King's Highway" Heaven-Bound. Keep going for three miles:one for the Father,One for the Son, and One for the Holy Ghost. Then exit off onto "Grace Blvd."From there, make a right turn on "Gospel Lane." Keep straight & make another right on "Prayer Rd." As you go on your way, Yield NOT to the traffic on "Temptation Ave." Also, avoid SIN ST. because it is a DEAD END. Pass up "Envy Dr." and "Hate Avenue." Also, pass "Hypocrisy St,"Gossiping Ln."& Backbiting Blvd. However you have to go down Long-suffering, Persecution Blvd. & trials and Tribulations Ave." But that's all right, because VICTORY St. is straight ahead ! AMEN I Love You Brother, See You There.

Uncle Ronny,

I would have long ago left a message if I had realized this was here. What an honor to you and all of your fallen brothers and sisters in law enforcement!

You were an amazing man and I miss you so much. You and I had a very special relationship that I hold so dear to my heart. I wish you had gotten the opportunity to see us all grow into adults and have children of our own. You would love your 2 nephews and 2 nieces...and they would have adored you.

To all of the other families of the fallen...I feel the pain of your loss. Know that my heart cries with you. God bless all of you. May He give you peace and comfort!

I had the great fortune to have Ron as a friend while I was working in the neigboring community of Meadows. I was the lone night shift officer in Meadows and Ron would always remind me that if I needed back-up, he was just a shout away. He would take coffee breaks with me and remind me of the dangers of handling certain types of calls alone. He was very concerned for my safety, and I only wish I could have been there for him in his time of need. I returned to my home state of MN only 10 months before his tragic death. I remember how I felt when I heard the news of his passing, and now that I see his photo on this site the feeling is as fresh as it was then. Ron was very officer-safety concious, and taught me to be that way too. Now that I am a sergeant, I am passing on those words of advice to my officers that Sgt. Slockett passed to me.
You are gone but will not be forgotten.
Rest In Peace my brother.

Words can't describe the impact you left in my life. Your humor and fast wit was enough to make a whole arena smile. You are missed dearly. Always know your smile and laughter live on. I only hope that the people that read this and all the other posts, will get to know what a positive role you played in everyones life that you touched.

I just learned of Sgt.Slockett today ( 8/30/01 ). I seen a post left on another site about this officer and I read up on him..I'm so sorry to hear of the families great lost. Police officers always put there life on the line for us everyday and for a PUNK or what ever the case may be, takes a life that is so dear to so many people, and for NO REASON..I just hope and pray that the people responsable for this senseless crime have been captured to the fulliest extent of the law....With All Our love prayers and support, the Perry family...
