I was one of the auxiliary police officers from the 69 pct that responded to a 10,13 that Sledge was involved in at the school on 85 st and Flatlands Ave on Thursday night. On Monday night Sledge was dragged to his death. I will always remember Sledge as a friend and someone to look up to. May good rest his soul.

Its sad not to see more reflections from police friends/co-workers of Cecil's, from the 69, he was truely one of a kind. He worked with a Black friend, Benie Fyre, and together they drove Capt Friedman crazy. He'd send them North and the Black community complained (they were too tough). He'd send them South and the Italians and Jews complained (they were too tough). Mainly they were just doing their jobs and breaking up the Hang-outs. All of his co-workers loved him and Benie. They were both great cops!

Its hard to believe so much time has passed since that night with "Crazy Sal", but Cecil's death brought many of us to face our our mortality. I respected Cecil as one of the toughest men I ever knew and I realized if this could happen to him it could happen to anyone who wears a badge. Sal should have been given "Death", life is too good for him!

I honor Officer Sledge's service-- and his sacrifice. I have written a letter to his murderer's parole board asking that he be denied parole. His family should not have to think about that man being out on the street again.

It warms my heart to read all these refletions on Cecil Frank Sledge. He is my uncle and I was named after him. (Frank). Next to my dad he is the greatest man I have known. I was young when all this happened. This person took a very special man away from me and my family. I thank God he touched so many lives in this world. Thank you all for all the storys of his life. Means so much. God bless all of you.

In 1980 I was a senior at South SHore HS. I had the pleasure of meeting PO.Sledge. He helped teach a police science class at my school. He worked with my uncle. We had a few laughs about recalling my uncle. My Dad told me Frank died when he got home from his shift. I have never forgotten your kindness and smile. I attended your funeral. I went on to serve 20 years in the NYPD.I met many other people who served with Frank. The common thread was Frank Sledge was A Cops Cop.I pray for him and will never forget him. God BLess his family.

Frank worked in my first precinct, the 69th Precinct Brooklyn, New York. He also worked with my father there. As a rookie in 1981, everyone of the other officer's at the 69 Precinct mourned Frank's passing. I remember them telling me, "Kid, Frank Sledge, now this is what a real hero and great cop is." Rest in Peace Frank, and god bless you Linda for always standing by Frank!

A "No parole" letter has been sent, so your cowardly killer remains locked up - and denied the pleasure of living in a world that you made safe for all of us.

I remember watching this on the evening news when I was 15. NYC had an average of 10 police officers killed per year in those days. Five years later I joined the force.
