Reflections for Patrolman Morgan E. Skidmore

My grandfather was Joseph James Skidmore. Morgan was his brother. My father was Joseph P. Skidmore.

My father, though only about 20 at the time of Morgan’s death, described fondly to me, many decades later, his memory of Morgan.

I would be interested in a photo of Morgan if someone has one to share.

May his memory and service not be forgotten.

I have a picture of Morgan Skidmore, son of George Shaw Skidmore and Gwenthelan Davis in the family archives I inherited. Gwenthelan is a sister of my great grandfather Hiram Smith Davies who was Chief of Police in Pottsville for many years.

Does anyone have information on Patrolman Morgan Skidmore's wife and children.

Rest in peace, Officer Skidmore.

My mother always spoke proudly of her Uncle Morgan even though he was killed the year before she was born. She shared with us the stories that her father had told her. The memory of his bravery will live on forever. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Even though you were gone long before my birth I want you to know I think of you often and proudly speak about you to my children. I tell them they should be proud to be descendants of such a brave, strong and heroic man. I know I am proud to call you my Great-Grandfather and you will always be my hero.

I am privileged to be among the first to leave a reflection for you. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 84th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Patrolman Skidmore,
On today, the 80th anniversary of your murder, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Pottsville. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. I think it was a travesty of justice that your murderer only served 14 years.

Although Morgan was killed long before my birth, I am extremely proud of his service and sacrifice for the welfare of others. Our family is one of policemen and military people. Morgan's example of service to others lives on in his descendants.
