I am a retired SLMPD Lieutenant, now the Executive Director of The Police Retirement Systemof St. Louis, the organization that provides pension benefits to commissioned members of the department, surviving spouses and dependent children. While I was just a freshman in college when Patrolman Simmons died, his story resides on my bookshelf "In the Line of Duty" as the 121st St. Louis police officer killed in the line of duty.

One of my police officer retiree friends is dedicated to enrolling our deceased officers, and recently sought my help in determining the final resting place of Officer Simmons, and any other information that might be found. Our records note the surviving spouse and two daughters, Janette and Jeanne, and even a name and address of your step-father, but strangely do not include the death certificate.

I have sought the help of contacts in the media and will follow up on any leads that may come my way.

Officer Simmons was my father. I was only nine months old when he passed. I got to know him through my grandmother, his mother, who is now passed. My older sister is a police officer in the State of Georgia, and I am a court reporter in West Virginia. Even though we did not get to know him, he has truely inspired both of us. We love you Dad!

Dear Officer Simmons,

You accomplished a lot in your short time on earth. Please continue watch over us from heaven's streets. Our prayers go out to the family and loved ones you had to leave behind. But, we know you are still around us. We will meet someday and be able to thank you. In the meantime, please pray for us. We love you son.
