As a current DWCO with the PFBC since 1985 I truly appreciate Warden Shoemaker's dedication and service in protecting the environmental resources of PA. As most people probably know conservation officers patrol in secluded environs and usually without backup readily available. It takes a brave, conscientious and dedicated individual like Warden Shoemaker to perform the duties of a conservation officer and sadly his life ended due to a tragic, thoughtless incident.

You could have easily looked the other way that night as you were on your way home after a days work, but instead you chose to go the extra mile in the course of your duties and for that you paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you and you will always be remembered.

Warden shoemaker. I just finished reading your story and as someone who is just beginning his career in law enforcement in bradford county your story reminds me that it can happen here too. I believe you were the first officer in Bradford county to give his life for the job, and two years ago this county lost two more friends and in March of this year I lost a very good friend in the line of duty. I just hope I can gain the respect all who have given their lives before me.

My grandfather L. Ray Dolan lived and farmed in Herrick Township near in the area where you worked. He was a young man just starting out his career when you died so tragically. Your story has not been forgotten, you were a legend among my grandfather's generation. I know the spot where you fought your fight, at the base of Spring Hill, near the crossroad known as the Turkey Path. When I return to Bradford County, I drive by and I remember. I have told the story to my son, and he will tell the story to his children too.

We appreciate your sacrifice, and may the Lord bless and keep your family and friends. My the Lord also bless all the the Pennsylvania Fish Wardens
