I along with Dan Kilkenny and with Sgt DePenny caught the Ahole in the park. If we knew who each other were at the time, we would have shot him.

The sniper had a shotgun. His name is Anthony Roden. I took him to Lima State Hospital where he remained until 2011.Billy's His son is now a Cleveland officer and I told him of the ride we took to Lima. The criminal was insane at the time? Never did he serve time, however back then Lima was Hell on earth. He got what he deserved. I was with the Sheriffs Office transport division at the time.

I am privileged to pay tribute to you. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing thier memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

To your daughter, I am sorry that your family did not receive the full measure of justice that both your family and your father deserved. Unfortunately I have discovered, that regardless of whether a judge and/or jury meted out justice, that security is never safe as long as our system allows state legislators the ability to modify sentences downward or groups with their own political agenda to impact sentencing.
I will pray for you as continue to warrior for justice.

Rest In Peace, Patrolman Shapiro.

I just left the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Parade and listened to Chanin tell everyone about you. She did you right and because of her, your memory lives on stronger than ever. Had it not been for that speech, I would not have "known" you. Rest easy. You are not forgotten.

To the family of Officer Shapiro:
I wanted to offer my sympathies on your vicious murder. I too have a habit of googling fallen POs all around the country. I can understand how your daughter Chanin feels. She can reach me as i live in Broward County FL in Hallandale Beach. My dad was one of NYPDs finest for almost 40 years in the 102 precinct. Imagine killing a police officer and being found innocent because the court finds you meshuganh-crazy. Rest in peace officer Shapiro. Olav Hashalom. By the way my dad passed on April 26, 1980, after being retired for 14 years.Your bravery and courage will never be forgotten.

As April 26, approaches I can't help but think about how my life would be different if you were here. I am almost 37 and I have out lived you...that thought sickens me. You were taken on your Birthday, how cruel... I bet there is no card for that. Happy Birthday...

As my career's end is coming closer, I decided to check and find those who had lost their lives during the year that I was hired. While it's been a long time since your passing, I'm sure those you left behind and those whom with you served with distinction have kept you alive in their memories. Thank you for your service and for looking out for us who continue in our chosen profession. Rest in peace Officer Shapiro.

As I browse and read the reflections of all the officers (a habit I have when I can't sleep at night) I see a lot of comments that justice was served by the legal system, I am so happy that justice was served in so many cases. However, It was not in this case. We are fighting a broken system when it comes to your murder. AR has been granted conditional release as of 2005, He can leave his institution whenever he wants as long as he returns at night. hardly a penalty for someone who took your life and a part of ours too. I sometimes think about it so intensely that I get sick to my stomach. I have so much anger, now more than ever. Not only at the scum bag that took you from us, but now for the court system that is letting him get away with it. We can not change the court ruling that took place in 1977 NGRI but I will fight or make the county fight with all I have to revoke the privileges that were granted to him without our knowledge in 2005. Who would have thought that even after suffering with your loss at 2 years old, I would have to fight in the court system like this as a mother of children myself more than 30 years later. I will never understand no matter what age or how much wisdom I have gained why this system has failed you. But I will not stop trying to regain control now that I am old enough to be heard. When I was little I visualized your killer in an institution as a "crazy" person, someone in a rubber room. I was a bit naive, I actually had feelings of forgiveness for what he did, because mom always said he was not going to be the reason we don't become the best we could be. another words, just because we were wronged by him is not an excuse to do wrong to others. I carried that with me for along time but I regret after reading all the court documents as of recent, that I do not have those feelings of forgiveness anymore, in fact I can't believe that those judges in 1977 couldn't see AR for the cold blooded killer he was and is and give him life in prison, and now the current judge DM what a joke he is. He put someone in jail for life, that threatened his life, but he wants to release the one that took yours, where is the justice in that. I will continue to do my part in winning the war on the streets as you did, even if judges like DM work against us.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I have known your family for over 20 years. I call your brother Wes, Uncle Wes, your wife has been like a second mother to me and your kids are like my own siblings. Each posess qualities and values you would be proud of. Your daughters have grown into respectable, beautiful women, your sons are hard working, decent human beings and your Grandchildren are adorable. Your son David is the reason I met your family. We have been friends since high school. He is a good cop, respectable, a great son, brother and friend....I know you are proud of all of your kids. Rest in Peace
