Reflections for Chief of Police George Edward "Ted" Seman

54 years and I still miss him. He was a good father and even though I only knew him for five years, he taught me more than you could possibly imagine. I use some of that knowledge every day.
These days, there are organizations and programs that help the families of fallen officers both financially and emotionally. None of them existed in 1966. Post traumatic stress disorder was unheard of. But, I guarantee our whole family lives with it every day.
George Edward (Ted) Seman will never be forgotten, but his family already is

Chief Seman, rest in peace and thanks for your honesty and bravery. What a hero! With one arm being able to perform your daily duties of running a police department. That takes much energy and mental aptitude. God bless your family members. Yo u helped people and to think a deaf man took your life, senseless for everybody.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 46th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I found this information written by his son / thought I should pass it on.
LEND A HAND
by James Andrew Seman
It was early fall of '65 when Ted pinned on that badge. The City council had elected him to be the first town cop.

Everyone knew George Edward Seman but folks always called him Ted. When he was not dressed in blue he would lend you a hand doing anything; mechanic work, welding, carpentery, or even fix your TV.

The real truth was that he "would lend you one hand", because he only had one hand. He lost his left arm above the elbone in 1953.

Ted was shot and killed on July 13, 1966 while transporting a drunk deaf mute man involved in a family dispute. I don't think he was even able to put handcuffs on the man.

I was 3 months from being 7 years old.

I still don't think the state law should have let my dad be a police officer because of his lost arm.

He was so honest he even gave himself a traffic ticket when the meter ran out.
