On today, the 55th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a LEO but for our Country as well when you served in the USAF. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

I was 15 when Mr. Searcy died. I still remember seeing the twisted wreckage and my father crying. We were friends of the family and I knew Ray well. WNNC, the local radio station, changed their format for the entire weekend. They played a mix of spirituals, religious, somber, etc. Last Date by Floyd Cramer was at the top of the charts. They sort of "adopted" that song and played it over and over. I can NOT hear it without thinking of Mr. Searcy and how the world lost such a great man that early Saturday morn.

I went to a Jason Coleman concert last week and shared with him the story of how Last Date was the song that I, and many others, associated with the life of a fallen hero. Jason is the grandson of Floyd Cramer and he and his mom were touched by it.

After the concert and talking about it on the way home, I did some Googling. Trooper David B. Searcy was a fine man...as well as his wife. Taking a father from that close household was something that I never, and still do not, understand....but it was God's doing.

RIP....you are remembered by far more that you realize....

Grandfather, I know you are in Heaven watching over Scott,
David and myself. We never got to know you but through our parents we have heard many great wonderful stories about the man you were. As Scott stated, you will never be forgotten and are thought of often.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 49th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
