If you are able, save them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for places they can no longer go. Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may not have always. Take what they have left -- what they have taught you with their sacrifice and their dying -- and keep it with your own. And in time when men decide to call the streets insane, take one moment to embrace these gentle heroes you left behind.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
