Reflections for Police Officer Louis Lyndon Sander

You may be gone but never forgotten. We didn’t get to team up for night patrol on the day that you ended your watch. I lost a good friend and brother Officer!

RIP Brother. Thank you for standing in harm’s way. It’s eerie to read the circumstances behind your death and that of HPD solo Officer Jim Irby. Sadly, that coward has not been executed either

It was my honor and privilege to have worked with and known Louis during my tenure with the Houston Police Department. Louis and I were scheduled to team up for night patrol after completion of my special assignment the the Music Theater in Sharpstown. RIP my friend and colleague.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 45th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect and you will always be honored and revered. I Pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace

Special Agent Mr Donald "Rex" Egelston, ret.
I read your account of the arrest of Kenneth Hinkle and his brother on the "Officer Down" Web-site of our Houston Police Retired Officers Association in regard to the murder of Officer Sander.
L.Lyndon Sander was my best friend from the fourth grade through high school football and the Police Department. He was my best man at my wedding fifty years ago this June. Forty-five years ago January 21 he was murdered.
I can still see Kenneth Hinkle smiling at his trial when Lyndon's wife, Linda, identified Lyndon's photo.
My life changed forever after his death. I served forty-two years in law enforcement and I know Lyndon's death made me more careful.
I hope you are enjoying retirement and God bless you and all the agents who helped get this killer off the streets.

As an Special Agent of the FBI in New Orleans, i along with others were directed to look for Kenneth and William Hinkle who were believed to have fled to New Orlenans following the murder of Officer Sander. I was alone while checking out a parking lot behind the YMCA and spotted Kenneth Hinkle hiding in a car and arrested him. Shortly thereafter, his brother William walked up on the scene and was arrested by other agents. Kenneth Hinkle exhibited his violent nature while being fingerprinted, He showed no emotion other than absolute anger at being caught. I often felt that his death sentence should not have been changed to life. I now understand that both Kenneth and his brother William have died in prison. I hope that the family and friends of Officer Sander reallize that on the evening of their arrest, Agents of the FBI were told that no one was going home until those responsible for the death of Officer Sander had been apprehended. .

It is so sad that on the 40th anniversary of your death, noone has been brought to justice. Thank you for your service, and please know that it is MEN like you that made it possible for men like me to continue your legacy. Rest in Peace, Officer Sander, and know that while final judgement may not have been made here on Earth for your killer, it surely will come in the end.
