DEAR AL & FAMILY,
I WAS EXTREMELY SADDENED TO LEARN OF YOUR FATHERS UNTIMELY DEATH IN 1968. I ALSO ENTERED THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AFTER MILITARY SERVICE, IN JAN.1964. I CAN PERSONALLY TELL YOU THAT IT IS A GREAT FEELING WHEN YOU KNOW THAT YOUR SIBLINGS LOVED, AND RESPECTED YOU AND THE JOB, AND FOLLOWED IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS. ALTHOUGH WE NEVER WORKED TOGETHER, MY SON, BILL JR., HAD THE PLEASURE TO SERVE UNDER YOU AND SAID THAT YOU WERE ONE OF THE FINEST BOSSES HE HAD EVER WORKED FOR. A TRUE COP, AND FELLOW HUMAN BEING. AGAIN, GOD BLESS YOUR DAD, AND THE ENTIRE PIGNATARO FAMILY. KEEP THE FAITH !
RESPECTFULLY, BILL PETRAGLIA SR.

Dad,
Wow it seems like forever! I cherish the few memories I have of you until your death. The NYPD was the greatest job anyone could ever have. I am so glad that I followed in your footsteps and worked with some of the best people in the world. Wearing a badge and making a difference is like no other. As I look back and think ahead I would not have wanted any other job. Along the way I met a few MOS who knew you and was dam proud. You now have 6 grandchildren in college. Miss you and will continue to make you proud

To Joseph and Al Pignataro,

I participated in the 8th annual NYPD Memorial 5K Run today and ran in memory of your father. My bib (#104) read “Running in Memory of NYPD Hero Ptl. Joseph D. Pignataro, November 13, 1968”.

I stopped at the NYPD Memorial Wall in Battery Park City before the race and said a prayer for your father and entire family.

My bib will be displayed outside my work office as a daily reminder of the sacrifice he made for his family and NYC.

Our society is made up of sheep, sheepwolves, and wolves. Only the rare breed take on the awesome responsibility of being the sheepwolves that protect our wonderful society from the wolf. Patrolman Pignataro chose to take on that awesome responsibility more than once in more than one uniform. He chose to be the firewall that allows our society to flourish. Patrolman Pignataro left a legacy and additionally contributed to the firewall by leaving his descendant to carry on in his tradition - thereby continuing the watch. He has been called to a greater posting and no doubt he is continuing to watch over others. May he always be remembered.

Dear Grandpa Joe, I found this on the computer one day after typing in my name. Im the oldest of what would have been your 6 grandchildren. Im you son Joseph's first child, and was named in honor of you. I never did get a chance to meet you, and although you left my dad when he was only 7, slight memories and stories get passed around every now and then. My dad is retired now, after 20 years and a couple days he got that pension he always wanted. He now works at a in Manhattan.I know you looking down from heaven, and may you rest in peace.

Dear officer Pignataro,
I am writing to let you know how GREAT of a son you have. I worked for your son Joe for many years and was sad to see him retire. You would be so proud to see the kind of boss he was to his cops. He was a leader but also a friend, whenever the man needed him. I also know how proud he was of you, your picture hung over his desk till the day he retired. well god bless you and all of your family, please know the Pignataro name is held in the highest standard in the NYPD.

Dad,

You died a hero for this great city in 1968. Your entire family misses you terribly. You are in our thoughts every single day. When I first came on "the job" in 1982, I met a few of your former co-workers from the 46 Precinct and the TPU units who were still around. Everyone had fond memories of you and said you had a great reputation not only as a cop, but as a person as well. Hopefully we will be reunited again in the future and we can exchange our NYPD "war stories."

Love,
AL

Officer Pignataro,

May god bless you and may all of us remember your service. It is remarkable to see that both of your twin sons have followed you and become what they are now. Congratulations to you for your accomplishments and your children's accomplishments. I am sure you are a proud father.

I am sure we are related somewhere down the line perhaps as distant cousins.

God bless and rest in peace.
