To me, Capt. Petrosino is an American hero. He was determined to rid New York of the criminals who were terrorizing the Italian people. He gave his life for this effort and may God bless his soul. I very much want to see a new book written about his life and I hope a book will be forthcoming. GOD BLESS YOU, CAPT. PETROSINO!

for the record:
Only one trial was ever held for your murder-a local crime boss whom who had arrested 1903 by you on a murder charge; the suspect was acquitted and went back to Sicily.
After your death this same suspect was tried and acquitted on the strength of a alibi; however he later claimed that he had killed you. He was arrested on a another murder charge and sentenced 1929 to prison. Suspect died in prison 1943-not in 1929

Lt. Joseph Petrosino is an icon to all Italian Americans. His 25 year career, will always touch the hearts of people all over the world. It shows us that one man can make the differance if he persues his dream for all mankind.
I wrote an article in April, 2004, entitled; "Joe Petrosino's Battle against Prejudice & Extortion". I was fortunate to meet Lt. Petrosino's cousin Gina, who gave me some of the data for the article, while serving in the US Navy in Naples, Italy after 9/11. I have a copy of the 1960 movie entitles; "Pay or Die", I highly recommend everyone to see it.

I am in awe of you Me Petrosino and proud to know that there were Italians doing everything they could and make the life's of us all better in your time and day. The stories of your strength and courage will live forever and i will be proud to be one of the Italian Americans to make sure your legend lives on. It is much more important for all to hear of your life and deeds than of any of sad stories made from the law breaking members of our nationality. I will do my best to make sure of this and ask all to do the same.

I recently watched a documentary about Lieuntenant J Petrosino. Coming from an Italian background and having worked on Italian Organised Crime in Australia, Lieutenant Petrosino is a true aspiration.

In the early 1970's I had the priviledge of serving with Michael Petrosino (Joseph's grandson) in Livorno, Italy. He was a Carabineri investigator assigned to the Camp Darby Caserne. Michael was an excellent investigator and he would have made Joseph proud. We worked many several narcotic and terrorism cases together. I have many fond memories of Michael and was recently told that he retired in Lucca.

Rest in peace Uncle Joe! When I was little, my father would tell us stories about you with pride in every word. After having read so much about you now, I can certainly understand why. You are a hero to us all and will never be forgotten. Thank you.

L.T., the shame of it is, instead of making a movie about you, they make them about Capone, Corleone, and Soprano. What a waste.

Joe, as you have known for 98 years, Jesus Loves You, so do we.

I learned of this great man by watching the History channel and I just had to learn more of him. What courage, what conviction...he traveled to Sicily (was suppose to be undercover) but still went after the New York Herald published the story of Petrosino's mission on February 20, 1909, just days before his departure. Even though he was aware of the danger, Petrosino headed to Palermo as planned and was ambushed by "tipped off" mobsters.
I will forever tell the story of this great man to my children and grandchildren of how this Italian American defended the honor of all hard working Italians and the homeland and it is this type of man that really exemplified our heritage and not the small percentage of hoodlums that continue to smear the contribution of millions of our parents and grandparents.
God Bless you Joseph Petrosino, I pray to shake your hand in heaven someday.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and all the members of the New York City Police Department. We were made safer by his service and we all suffer their tragic loss. The family of Lieutenant Petrosino deserves our appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifice. No greater love has a man than the will to give his life for another. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Lieutenant Petrosino is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
