Reflections for Sergeant Thomas P. Oates

Sergeant Thomas P. Oates is my great uncle. He left this earth before I was even born. I am proud and honored to have an uncle who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe. You'll always be a hero to me and my family. Thank you to all the police officers who risk their lives daily to keep us safe. Uncle Tom, may you have eternal rest in God's kingdom.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 87th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Rest in peace Sergeant. Although the city has much likely changed drastically as time has passed, we serve the same families protected by the same patch. Your willingness to serve in defense of our Brotherhood has only strengthened the relationship between departments over time. May our work be done in honor of your sacrifice to the community.

We'll take the watch from here.

I said a little prayer today for Sergeant Oates and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.
