Sergeant Clarence Nordyke was killed when his car struck a bridge on Texas Highway 67 near Mertzon during a heavy rain storm at 7:15 a.m.

Sergeant Nordyke had served with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Texas Rangers for 13 years and previously served as the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff at the Callahan County Sheriff's Office. He was survived by his wife, son, and brother.

My Grandfather a man of mankind. You can tell of his pictures. I only knew of him of 3 years but I remember Him. And all the Rangers of Company B. I am 72 years old and live in Austin, Texas. I often visit his place of Death going to a trial. And of course going to Ranger Company B Station.
