Add to My HeroesEdgar Nagie
Patrolman Edgar Nagie was shot and killed as he and his partner searched for a suspect who had threatened his wife with a gun approximately 30 minutes earlier.
The officers learned that the suspect was at a location on Washington Avenue. When they arrived at the scene at 10:30 p.m., Patrolman Nagie's partner covered the front of the home while Patrolman Nagie went to the back.
Patrolman Nagie encountered the suspect, and both immediately exchanged shots. Patrolman Nagie was struck three times and mortally wounded. The suspect had also been struck in the chest and died a short time later after being taken into custody by Patrolman Nagie's partner.
Patrolman Nagie had served with the Cleveland Division of Police for five years. He was survived by his expectant wife and two daughters.

View all 21 ReflectionsAs part of the Greater Cleveland Police Officers Memorial Society, each year during Police Week we place grave markers at the top of the tombstones of Officers who have been killed in the line of duty. We do this in an effort to keep our promise to "Never Forget."
I was assigned this Officer during Police Week 2023.
Once the grave marker was placed, I placed a US Flag and a Great Cleveland Police Officers Memorial Society Flag in the marker, took a moment of silence, and then said a prayer.
After Police Week, I went back to retrieve the marker and flags and secured them for next year's Police Week. A penny was placed upon his tombstone.
