My Dear Hero:
This is your widow talking once again. On this 50th anniversary of your passing it still seems, in many ways like yesterday, but on the other hand so long ago when we were able to be a family and grown together. It was not to be!
In addition to your three grandchildren who you never got to know you, you now have two great grandchildren. They are only 5 & 7 years old, but they do know who their Great Grandpa Merle was and the loving, and caring man that you were. We show your picture often. There has not been a day in 50 years that I have not thought of you and not one night have I slept through since 1971. Rest in peace knowing that your family misses and loves you every single day.
