Sheriff Ottis Morrow was shot and killed while giving a Mexican national a ride 11 miles north of Presidio.

The suspect attacked the sheriff when the sheriff found out he was a bracero and threatened to turn him over to the INS. The suspect fled to Mexico where he was arrested and tried in a Mexican court.

A WWII veteran, Sheriff Morrow had been a member of the Presidio County Sheriff's Department for 3 years. He is survived by his wife, son, and two stepsons.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 62nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
