Oscar Eugene Mills

Trooper Oscar Mills died from injuries he suffered in an accident more than eight years earlier while in pursuit of a speeding vehicle near Flora in Carroll County.

While pursuing the violator westbound on State Road 18 west of County Road 350 at 7:30 pm, Trooper Mills struck an eastbound car turning left into a local farm. His squad car careened sideways 300 feet before coming to rest against a grain bin.

Trooper Mills suffered a skull fracture and remained in a coma from the time of the accident until succumbing to his injuries.

Trooper Mills had served with the Indiana State Police for over two years at the time of the accident and was assigned to the Lafayette post. He was survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

You endured the nightmare every officer dreads.... hearing your story made two of my classmates drop out of the academy in the 15th week. You suffered the imaginable, a death that never ends. You were and will always be a Trooper, the best of the best. We will carry the load from here, rest easy my friend and may your family be able to look back on that photo of that good looking young man and know he was a man of great honor. And smile. Your children were robbed of their father and your wife, of her husband. I hope easier roads were ahead for everyone. May you be blessed for the job you did.
