Patrolman Louis Metaxas died after falling from a roof during a search for a burglary suspect at 55 Old Colony Avenue.

A citizen who was also looking for the suspect had taken his German Shepherd to the roof while Patrolman Metaxas was there. The dog attempted to attack Patrolman Metaxas, knocking him from the roof.

Patrolman Metaxas, a Vietnam Army veteran, had served with the Boston Police Department for nine years.

RIP, Louie. As I recall, you worked in the Team Police Unit and was working in one of the housing projects in Southie. I was a patrolman in the new Dist. 6 sta. that opened up on W Broadway that year. You wouldn’t recognize Dist. 6 (South Boston) today, bro. Different place from the Southie we worked in 30 years ago. RIP.
