Officer William McCooley was killed in a motorcycle crash while responding to a traffic accident.
On his way to the scene of the accident, another vehicle pulled in front of him at Beach Boulevard and E Gerona Drive in Jacksonville. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Officer McCooley was a United States Army World War II and Korean War veteran who had served with the Jacksonville Police Department. He was survived by his wife.
