Red (Earl C.) Barnes was my grandfather. I was born in 1965 son of Earl Connelly Barnes. My name is Jeffrey Earl Barnes. I have spoken with individuals who were close to the scene and some who knew him well. By accounts I’ve heard Red was a decent man when sober. But when drinking he turned 180* totally opposite of his good nature. He most likely was drinking heavily at this tragic time. Alcoholism has been a family curse well before him. My father suffered from it till his last years. I chose to enter rehab 4.5 years ago to end my suffering and put an end to that curse. My 32 year old son is a fine, upstanding and successful businessman who cares nothing for alcohol. Prayers would be appreciated to keep him strong in his life journey. If I could change the outcome of 1959 I would do anything to stop it.
