Officer Martin was shot and killed when he was caught in the cross fire of two men who were shooting at each other at Adams and St. Antoine Streets. The suspect was arrested after the shooting.

Officer Martin had served with the Detroit Police Department for 11 years and was assigned to the Bethune Street station. He was survived by his wife and three children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
