Keith Stephen Konopasek

Officer Keith Konopasek was shot and killed while detaining a suspect during a traffic stop on the 1700 block of 82nd Avenue.

An unrelated man fired one shot which struck him. He died two hours later at a local hospital.

The shooter was charged with murder of a police officer with a firearm but was acquitted after claiming his rifle unintentionally discharged when he slipped inside of his home.

Officer Konopasek had served with the Oakland Police Department for only six months. He is survived by his fiancée, parents, and two sisters.

28 years and counting since you were taken away from us. Keith's funeral was the first for a friend lost in the line of duty.

He had the quickest humor and was the best boat driver in our unit.

He was serious when he explained how he was going to pursue a law enforcement career. He buckled down with the books, raced through the coursework and was quickly accepted into the academy.

I remain proud of how he carried himself as he began working patrol.

Keith, the impact you've had on the lives of our Army Reserve family is still strong.
