Police Officer Arthur Malinofski was shot and killed while checking doors in a residential section of the city.
It is believed he interrupted a burglary and was shot twice before he was able to draw his gun, which was still in its holster. His murder was never solved.
Officer Malinofski had served with the Baltimore Police Department for nine years and was survived by his wife.
