Trooper Bubba Wells was killed when he was struck by a vehicle after stopping a traffic violator on I-55 south of Hernando.
He was transported to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, where he succumbed to his injuries.
No charges were filed against the driver who hit him.
Trooper Wells had served with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety - Mississippi Highway Patrol for just over 18 months. He was survived by his parents and sister.
A section of I-55, at mile marker 277, was dedicated in Trooper Wells' memory.
