Michael Lynch

Patrolman Michael Lynch was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend an intoxicated man who was firing a gun out of an apartment window.

As Patrolman Lynch gained entry into the apartment, the suspect opened fire, killing Patrolman Lynch.

The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He was executed at Sing Sing Prison on August 12, 1912.

Patrolman Lynch served with the New York City Police Department for six years and was assigned to the 22nd Precinct. His expectant wife and 2-year-old son survived him.

Reflecting on the murder of two NYP officers in the last few days. My grand uncle was Michael Lynch who was killed, July 1, 1911, in the line of duty. Michael was a patrolman. He was responding to a man who was shooting out windows in a building in Manhattan. According to news accounts, Michael was shot as he was entering the apartment where the gun man was.
