Patrolman Lee Lynam was shot and killed by a suspect he had arrested earlier in the day. The suspect was released and told to behave. He tracked down Patrolman Lynam and shot and killed him inside a cafe at 109 East Third Street.
The suspect was later apprehended and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Officer Lynam had served with the Dayton Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife, five children, parents, and brother.
He is buried in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Section 31 Lot 83, Dayton, Ohio.
