Deputy Joseph Le Jeune was shot and mortally wounded in Dixie by an insane man he was attempting to arrest for an attempted kidnapping. He died five days later. The suspect was arrested and committed in the state insane asylum.
Deputy Le Jeune was survived by his wife and seven children.
