Deputy Sheriff Ray Larson was shot and killed while attempting to serve a domestic battery warrant on Rural Avenue in Aurora Township.
Deputy Larson and the local magistrate had gone to the man's home at 1100 Rural Street to serve the warrant. Deputy Larson knocked on the door and announced himself but received no answer. When he went inside the dark trailer, the man opened fire, striking him. The magistrate returned fire and wounded the suspect.
Deputy Larson was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds three weeks later following surgery to remove the bullet.
