My sweetest childhood friend just sent me the link to this page. I read all the beautiful posts and am deeply touched. I am Karen Lynette Kuba Borecky the daughter of Louis Raymond Kuba and his wife, Patricia. I was born 2 months after my father was killed. Yes, I would very much LOVE to read the letter from my mother. My mother did move on with her life. She remarried a wonderful man but they were unable to have children so I am their only child. Both are well and he retired from the railroad, she retired from a telephone company, and they live on a cattle ranch now. I just saw them because my only daughter, Louis’s only granddaughter just gave birth to our second grandchild May 27. Sadly, my mom could not speak about my father to me. As an adult she still will not speak of it and I do not ask, still, to this day out of respect for the grief she has carried with her my entire life. She told me only one thing when I was a teenager and it is burned in my memory. The call came in for him to go to the riot that day. She was 7 months pregnant and absolute dread overcame her. She begged him not to go. She dropped to her knees. He told it was his job and he had to go. She followed him out of their house still begging him not to go. When he left she went back inside and sat on a chair by the phone waiting for the call she knew would come. I am unable to register for an account on this site for some reason but will gladly post my email [email protected]
